About Us

Leah Chiponis, 9th Grade
My name is Leah Chiponis, and I was born in San Jose, California. I have lived in San Jose my whole life, and I have little experience in woodworking and with power tools. I have never built anything with wood before, but during science last year, I had some experience with power tools as we built ROVs. This project was very fun and amazing because of all the new skills and ideas we picked up while working. As life goes on, I am looking forward to having more experience with woodworking and creating new things.

Jessica Serrano, 9th Grade
My name is Jessica Serrano, and I was born in Palo Alto, California. I moved to San Jose in third grade and I have enjoyed science all my life. I have never touched a power tool before and was very excited to learn how to use it safely. My parents did some woodworking and I sometimes watched. I was very happy to work with two other people and learn together. This experience was very fun and I'm looking forward to working with power tools again and create something amazing.

Grace Slone, 9th Grade
Hello! My name is Grace Slone, and I was born in Reston, Virginia. I moved out to San Jose when I was 13 years old, and I have always had a passion for science, especially life science. I've never really done any woodworking before, so it was fun to try something new. I especially enjoyed the painting aspect of this project, but the overall procedure was very fun.

Sydney Stitt, 9th Grade
My name is Sydney Stitt, and I'm originally from Hunan, China. I moved to San Jose, California when I was 16 months old. My dad really enjoys woodworking, and builds sets for the WGHS theatre program. He helped us with the power drilling of the bench. Without his help, it would've been pretty difficult to built the bench. I definitely enjoyed the teamwork of these projects as well as the learning aspect.
