Fall Bench Project Introduction (1/2)

For our first Fall project, we decided to build a bench. This way, the bench could serve as a comfortable resting area for tired students during passing periods, breaks, or lunch periods. While the idea seemed relatively easy, there were a few bumps and cracks we went through.

Primarily, we needed to make sure the project was budget-friendly. Building a bench required a lot of tools and components - which can add up quickly. However, we found relatively cheap wood, screws,  paint, and paintbrushes at local hardware stores. One of the generous dads helped us out by demonstrating how to safely use a power drill.

Another tricky obstacle was designing it. What would be the most comfortable for someone's...er, southern region? Should it be big? Small? How wide? Lots of elements and a LOT of free choice made it more difficult than we thought it would be. We settled for a simple design that wouldn't be too expensive.

We used 24 two-inch screws, 12 six-inch screws, yellow & red paint, sandpaper, a power drill, drill bits in various sizes, 3 4-inch by 4-inch by 8 feet of wood, paintbrushes in various sizes, aprons, paper plates, newspaper, and metal brackets.
